Headed to the Lone Star State
Katie Kacvinsky (known around here as "Kaz") and I are heading to San Antonio on March 18th to exhibit at the NBEA Annual Convention. I attended last year's conference in New York and am very excited to go back for a second year. I always look forward to meeting teachers from all over the country, and although I have been to Texas many times this will be my first trip to San Antonio. We will be located in Booth 108.
Back in action, with lots of links!
My apologies to being absent from the TRC community the last couple weeks. It has been a very busy time for me at brass, which led to my neglect of blogging (here and on my personal blog too!) I'm back though, now, and will continue to help make your experiences in the TRC as easy and enjoyable as possible. As I look around the site, I've found a few new things that I missed, but hope you haven't.

eBay Entrepreneurs
Karl Krause, a business teacher at Chenango Valley High School (New York) is using eBay to teach students about entrepreneurship. In his E-Commerce class, students choose a product to sell, market it and keep track of costs and profits. His class grossed $1,300 this year and gave 10% of profits to charity. His teaching strategy is gaining recognition for its creative balance of incorporating modern technology with classroom curriculum to demonstrate business skills that students can also apply outside of school.

Making a phone call to ask someone to the movies has been replaced by sending out an invitation on Facebook or Myspace. Why leave a note on your fridge about soccer practice when you can Twitter? I know that if I want to get a word in with my younger cousins, text messaging is the best way to get through.
State of the Schools
In his State of the Union address on Monday evening, President Geroge W. Bush briefly hit on education. Six years ago he passed the No Child Left Behind Act and now, as his term draws to a close, here is his reflection: Members of Congress: The No Child Left Behind Act is a bipartisan achievement. It is succeeding. And we owe it to America's children, their parents, and their teachers to strengthen this good law. As students, parents and educators, what do you think about this statement?

A Little Wisdom Goes a Long Way
Trying to motivate your students to save money and plan for the future can be a challenge. What can you do, as a teacher, to give students short, digestible wisdom about money management on a daily basis? One of my friends, a history teacher in Evansville, Wisconsin, told me about the book, "1001 Things Every Teen Should Know Before They Leave Home (Or Else They
