brass|IN CLASS
We designed the brass|TEACHER RESOURCE CENTER to not only be a clearinghouse of lesson plans and questioning strategies to accompany brass|MAGAZINE, but also as a place to come for ideas on different ways to use brass in your class. Here are a few ideas shared with us by teachers who are using brass in theirs.
- A teacher in Wisconsin gives students points for using brass as a research tool.
- An engineering teacher in Oregon recently read the cover story about William Kamkwamba with his class.
- Another Oregon teacher used the article A Fool and his Money in her Applied Computer Applications class as a warm up discussion. This same teacher also used the First Time Taxes article as part of a lesson in her Accounting class and is reading the 10 Successful & Unique Web Businesses article with her Web Page Design class.
- A Wisconsin teacher shared that she uses brass for partner reading and group discussion assignments, but also finds that the magazine is great for students to read if they finish classroom work early.
- A New York teacher has his students read brass by designing a scavenger hunt for them to complete as they read. This is a great way to incorporate research skills.
