brass|STUDENT PROGRAM redesigns its Teacher Resource Center
3. Financial literacy website
The brass|STUDENT PROGRAM recently launched its redesigned Teacher Resource Center.
The site lets high school educators create a community around financial literacy education and download classroom activities that complement the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Personal Financial Literacy (which are available in pdf or print form from the DPI) . There is also a blog, forum, and exclusive bonus content.
The website is part of brass|MEDIA, a company founded by college student Bryan Sims with the goal of conveying to young adults the importance of understanding money.
Last May, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Elizabeth Burmaster announced the launch of the brass|STUDENT PROGRAM at the Wisconsin Credit Union League annual convention. As part of Wisconsin credit unions' REAL Solutions initiative, every public high school in Wisconsin began receiving free classroom sets of brass|MAGAZINE, a lifestyle magazine with a money twist, this past September.
Proclaimed a "cool read" by Governor Jim Doyle, brass|MAGAZINE features articles written for young adults, by young adults, and uses an edgy, conversational style to cover subjects from how to snowboard on a budget to how to invest money.
After registering on the new website, educators can elect to become the primary contact for their school, taking charge of ensuring that brass|MAGAZINE is reaching students and becoming the first to know about special events and opportunities.
